If you’ve spent much time on YouTube within the last several years, odds are you’ve at least heard of MrBeast. Jimmy Donaldson, the name behind the channel, became the most-subscribed individual creator on the entire platform in 2022, and still holds that record by a significant margin as of the beginning of 2026. While his massive following is a main contributor to his notability today, MrBeast initially climbed the social media ladder with extreme stunts, high-budget challenges, and generous philanthropy.
MrBeast’s non-profit charity organization, Beast Philanthropy, works to aid communities experiencing hunger and homelessness, as well as supporting disaster relief, medical initiatives, and school funding. Among Beast Philanthropy’s Diamond-tier sponsors is a name many will recognize: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as what is Mormon or the LDS Church. But what exactly does the Church’s involvement mean, and how does their support for Beast Philanthropy fit into their larger mission?
How The Church Uses Its Wealth
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of the wealthiest religious organizations in the world. Ensign Peak is its branch responsible for managing stocks and real estate in LDS finances, ensuring long-term sustainability. However, a significant portion of the Church’s income is donated by its members.
Latter-day Saints believe paying the Mormon Church tithing is an act of faith, sacrifice, and gratitude to God. Many members voluntarily donate a “full tithe,” defined as 10% of their income, to the Church. Members are free to determine what they define as “income” (typically deciding between net and gross) and their contributions are based on an honor system. A full tithe is not required for membership in the Church.
Tithing funds support Church operations; such as building and maintaining meetinghouses, temples, and universities; supporting the Church’s welfare programs, and funding the Church’s extensive humanitarian work. As we see, one way the Church is currently using their funds to aid those in need is through sponsoring Beast Philanthropy.
Beast Philanthropy performs large-scale projects improving underprivileged communities. Some of their accomplishments include delivering over 46 million meals, saving an orphanage from closure, and helping 2 million people get access to clean water. The organization has stated that it hopes to “make kindness viral” through its large internet platform.
The Church’s Mission and Philanthropic Profile
Although a collaboration between a religious organization and the world’s biggest Youtuber might seem odd to some, the results of Beast Philanthropy’s work align well with other philanthropic work done by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church has said that they aim to aid people “without regard to religious affiliation, race, or nationality.” In its mission to carry out Christ’s instruction to “love thy neighbor” and serve others, the Church supported 3,836 humanitarian projects in 2024 alone, and is continuously working to make the world a better place.
