Marcus H. Martins holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, a Master’s in Organizational Behavior, and a Ph.D. in Sociology, specializing in Religion, Race, and Ethnic Relations. Brother Martins embraced the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1972 and made history in 1978 by becoming the first Latter-day Saint of Black African descent to serve as a full-time missionary in the twentieth century. His illustrious career encompasses leadership as the Chair of the Department of Religious Education and teaching roles at Brigham Young University–Hawaii, BYU, and Ricks College. Marcus Martins has delivered lectures on a wide array of topics, spanning across the United States, Brazil, Hong Kong, Japan, and Malaysia.

Courses Taught: REL 200 (Eternal Family); REL 431 (Doctrines of the Gospel); REL 275 (Teachings of the Book of Mormon); REL 480 (Church Organization and Leadership); REL 324 and 325 (Doctrine and Covenants I and II).

Areas of Specialization: Profound expertise in temple symbolism, the influence of restoration doctrines on daily religious life, and the correlation between immigration and the expansion of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
